There's Mt. Adams again.

A clear cold day today all day.

Edit:  In case you might wonder why I said again, I realized after hitting publish that I did not put Mt. Adams on this blog the other day as I thought, It is here at Katney's Kaboodle. In a post with the title "As I thought". I think I am thinking too much.

As I don't expect to get out with the camera today, here is a shot from last year.

Two new babies

As I passed this morning I saw four lambs romping. I went back to take a look after lunch. Yesterday's lambs were not in evidence. But the new ones were checking out their world with Mom.

Went looking for the kids.

I thought I saw a couple of kids romping in among the sheep, two young horses, and one cow with rather fierce looking horns when I drove down the road earlier today. When I took a walk down to the pasture, I found that it was two lambs. They were on the far side resting with Mom. I was glad of my zoom lens. I wonder if we will be seeing more of them in the coming days. ( I mean MORE of them, not more of THEM--although either would be lovely.)

Chip attack

This bird is a Clark's Nuthatcher. We met him New Year's on the porch of  the National Park Inn at Longmire in Mt. Rainier National Park.
The Clark's Nuthatcher and his cousin the Gray Jay are known far and wide by another name.
They are CAMP ROBBERS!
One summer I had one steal a strip of bacon while I turned to fry the eggs.
Doesn't he have a smug proud-of-himself look on his face?
They don't restrict themselves to camping season.
They are around in the winter as well, here on the porch at the Inn, in the parking lots checking out the visitors' snacks, paying no attention to the  Keep Wildlife Wild, Don't Feed the Animals signs.
Trying to get at the homemade potato chips leftover from lunch.

red and white

A cluster of berries on the Mountain Ash in our yard are decked with snow this morning.

The entire tree is still covered with red berries, making it a red beacon as we come down the road. I don't remember this being the case in past years--that the berries have remained so long after the leaves have fallen.

New Year's Eve

Okay, blog neglected for over two months and even Katney's Kaboodle gone to just a couple of posts a week. This will change as of tomorrow. I will post something here daily for 2013!!! I declare!!!It may sometimes be archive and sometimes just a pic of the yard, but something new each day.

I will also revive Reflecting Daily, though it may become Reflecting Occasionally.

New Year's Resolution.

You know how those go.

Flight

So here is what happened. The months at the SCCA are on hold as a heart issue took precedence. Shortly I wrote that we would be in Seattle, a mild heart attack sent the oncologists to the background and the cardiologists to the forefront. So we remain home. And today we took an adventure to Maryhill Museum, where we saw this bird in flight over the Columbia River. The land you see in the background is Oregon.

I'll be baaaaaack!

I did not totally abandon the blog these last few weeks, but have not been out and about with the camera, have had computer video card problems, and  have been crazy busy a lot. Next week we go to Seattle where himself will spend a great deal of time at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for the next few months. Let's see what I can find in my off time. I promise--while there--to post an image a day from that very day. Well, except when I don't.

Irrigation is the lifeblood

Without irrigation our valley would be a desert. Note the patchwork of crops beyond. The Rattlesnake Hills are in the distance here, taken looking the opposite direction from yesterday's view. No need to explain that name...

viewed through the vineyard

The wind machine protects the buds from frost in early spring by circulating the air, mixing warmer air from above with the cold air that would otherwise settle near the ground and damage the crop. The Horse Heaven Hills are in the distance, so named because they were difficult to farm in the early years, but heaven for horses.
